FCC: iPad use could further strain AT&T 3G

Although Apple’s iPad has yet to hit the market, the Federal Communications Commission has expressed concern over its potential impact on AT&T’s 3G network.

Without naming AT&T, which has secured a carrier deal for the tablet device, Phil Bellaria, director of scenario planning, and John Leibovitz, deputy chief of the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau, outlined their concerns in an FCC blog post Monday:

Apple patch plugs iPhone, iPod Touch holes

Apple issued a patch on Tuesday for the iPhone and iPod Touch that plugs five holes, including several that could allow an attacker to take control of the device remotely.

Three of the vulnerabilities could allow someone to run code remotely, if an iPhone or iPod Touch user opened malicious audio or image files, or accessed a malicious FTP (File Transfer Protocol) server, Apple said.

It's 2010 and still no MacBook Air with 3G.

Apple aluminum MacBooks are definitely cool–until you want 3G in a laptop. Then they’re not.

I’ve said this before. But I’ll say it again. There are consumers–including those potentially opting for laptops from Hewlett-Packard or Dell–who would like to buy a MacBook with 3G built in. Let’s hope Apple sees the light with the expected upgrade to the MacBook Pro line.

Apple seeks ban on U.S. Nokia imports

The ongoing patent battle between Apple and Nokia escalated Friday, when Apple moved to block imports of Nokia cell phones to the U.S.

Apple made its request in a complaint filed with the International Trade Commission, an independent federal agency that examines issues including unfair trade practices involving patent, trademark, and copyright infringement.

In December, Nokia filed its own complaint with the USITC in Washington. In it, the Finnish company alleged that Apple infringes seven Nokia patents “in virtually all of its mobile phones, portable music players, and computers” and sought to ban imports of Apple’s iPhone, iPod, and MacBook products.

Apple acquires Quattro Wireless

Mobile advertising company Quattro Wireless confirmed Tuesday that it’s been acquired by Apple, in a blog post by Quattro CEO Andy Miller, who’s identifying himself now as Apple vice president of mobile advertising.

Apple pulls iPhone app that upset Hollywood

I am sure honest Hollywood agents do exist. It’s just that they don’t seem to employ the finest PR firms to proselytize their honesty.

This might explain why Oisin Hanrahan, the Irish creator of an iPhone app called SuperAgent, decided that the main character in his game might be a few scruples short of Mother Teresa.

Apple wins appeal in earbud hearing-loss lawsuit

Just because something can benefit from some improvement doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily bad for you. That’s basically what a San Francisco appeals court said when it upheld a previous ruling that Apple iPod earbuds cannot be held responsible for hearing loss, according to a Reuters report.

In the ruling, a judge wrote that the plaintiffs didn’t offer evidence to show that iPod earbuds were dangerous, only that they believed they could be made safer. The judge wrote:
